The story
Westfield UTC is an open-air mall at La Jolla Village Dr and Genesee Ave in University City, spread over several levels and anchored by Nordstrom and Macy's. It pairs luxury labels and fragrance boutiques with home showrooms, local shops, an ice rink and family amenities, and the Trolley Blue Line ends at its door.
Luxury and Fragrance
Hermès has been at UTC since 2008 and reopened in July 2026 after an RDAI redesign, with a terracotta brick facade, a private lounge and art from the Émile Hermès Collection. It carries silk, leather goods, equestrian, jewelry and watches, home decor and ready-to-wear. Bvlgari sells the Roman house's jewelry, watches and fragrances, Loro Piana sells clothing and accessories made from its own fabrics, such as fine cashmere, and Tiffany & Co. has engagement rings, diamond, gold and silver jewelry, with a direct store phone line for appointments.
UTC is a good stop for fragrance. The standalone CHANEL Fragrance and Beauty Boutique has makeup artists on hand for consultations and application. Le Labo, the New York perfumer founded in 2006, hand-blends each fragrance at the time of purchase and prints a personalized label for the bottle. diptyque opened in fall 2025 across from La Colombe Coffee near Apple, with a fragrance counter, candles, bath and body products and home scents, plus fragrance fittings and gift wrapping.
Home, Local Shops and Kids
For the home, RH shows the brand's furniture, lighting, textiles and decor, and Design Within Reach sells classic modern pieces alongside work from emerging designers, with design services. Gentle Monster, newly opened, sells the eyewear brand's sunglasses and optical frames.
The smaller shops are worth a look between the big names. Sun Diego Boardshop, a local shop in business for 30 years, sells surf, skate and beach apparel and gear. Isabelle's Cabinet is a women's boutique with floral dresses, skirts and going-out pieces, and Gabriela Ceballos, a NYC-based, Latina-founded jewelry brand, has colorful statement earrings and a signature charm bar. Geppetto's Toys has toys, games and books for all ages, free daily gift wrapping and special orders.
With kids, the splash pad and playground are near Macy's, so bring a change of clothes, and the Family Lounge off the food court has nursing stations. UTC Ice Sports Center runs long public skate sessions with rentals and in-and-out privileges, so you can shop between laps.
Eating at the Mall
Din Tai Fung, on the north side near La Jolla Village Dr and Genesee Ave, specializes in xiao long bao. Ramen Nagi takes customizable ramen orders by check-sheet. For a longer meal, there is Lucrezia for coastal Italian, Javier's for upscale Mexican, Teleferic Barcelona for Spanish food, and Seasons 52, a seasonal grill and wine bar that also extends your parking validation.

Parking and transit.
The center runs Mon–Sat 10am–8pm and Sun 11am–7pm, and stores set their own hours. Apple and diptyque keep the center's hours; for the luxury boutiques, call ahead. The first two hours in the Genesee, Oceans and Sunset garages are free, with an hourly rate after that and extended validation from AMC Theatres, Seasons 52 and 24 Hour Fitness. A valet drive-up on La Jolla Village Dr near Genesee Ave includes Tesla charging. To skip parking entirely, ride the Trolley Blue Line to its northern terminus at the UTC Transit Center, at the south end of the mall.
