USD's Alcalá Park campus (5998 Alcalá Park) keeps its shops and dining in the Hahn University Center and the Student Life Pavilion next to it. Off campus, students go down the hill to Morena Boulevard for Costco, over to Fashion Valley in Mission Valley for the big stores, or to Hillcrest for used books, vintage and dinner.

The USD Torero Store is the official university store: USD and Toreros apparel and gifts, office supplies, textbooks (new, used and rental, with price-matching on new books from Amazon, and online ordering for pickup), and a tech department with laptops, tablets and "Torero Ready" laptop bundles. It opened in 2015 in the University Center–Student Life Pavilion complex. The university points to usdtorerostore.com and the MySanDiego app for current hours; phone (619) 260-4551.

Tu Mercado, in the Student Life Pavilion, is the campus market and deli, with groceries, grab-and-go food, an espresso bar and a Spirit Shop of Toreros apparel and gifts.

Costco (4605 Morena Blvd), in the Morena district below campus, is the bulk-buy stop for move-in; the warehouse is open Monday to Friday 10am to 8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm. In Hillcrest, Whole Foods Market (711 University Ave) is open daily 7am to 10pm and Trader Joe's (1090 University Ave) daily 9am to 9pm.

Fashion Valley. The mall (7007 Friars Rd) is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 9pm and Sunday 11am to 7pm. Apple Fashion Valley has a Genius Bar for repairs, Nordstrom covers clothes and shoes, and Free People has dresses and denim.

Hillcrest. Buffalo Exchange (3862 Fifth Ave) buys, sells and trades used and vintage clothing, so it's a good place to swap a closet, and Bluestocking Books (3817 Fifth Ave) has sold secondhand books since 1967; it is closed Wednesdays. Our Hillcrest page has the rest.

On campus. La Gran Terraza, USD's own full-service restaurant on level 2 of the Hahn University Center, serves seasonal California and Mediterranean dishes with indoor and outdoor seating, and Pavilion Dining in the Student Life Pavilion has several counters.

With parents. In Hillcrest, Great Maple (1451 Washington St) is a busy diner for brunch, and Trust (3752 Park Blvd) cooks over a wood-fired grill with a big patio; in Mission Hills, Fort Oak (1011 Fort Stockton Dr) serves Brad Wise's fire-cooked menu in a former car dealership. Trust and Fort Oak are both MICHELIN Recommended; see our MICHELIN guide.

Bus. MTS Route 44 stops at the USD entrance about every 15 to 20 minutes and runs between Old Town Transit Center, Linda Vista and Kearny Mesa.

Trolley. USD names Old Town Transit Center, on the Blue and Green Lines, as its nearest trolley stop. On weekdays the free USD Tram runs shuttles between campus and the Old Town trolley station: morning pickups at Old Town from 6:45am, and afternoon departures from campus between 3pm and 6pm; check USD's tram page for the current schedule. Discounted MTS student passes are sold at the Hahn University Center Ticket Office.

Parking. Visitors park in the Mission or West Parking Structures or the West and Gravel lots and pay through ParkMobile; permits are required Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm.
