Insider guide
Shopping Seaport Village.
The story
Seaport Village is a Port-owned cluster of low clapboard shops, snack stands and restaurants on the bayfront along West Harbor Dr, from Kettner Blvd to Pacific Hwy. The shops sit between 803 and 879 W Harbor Dr, with the 1895 Looff carousel (Unit 67) in the middle. The mix leans to gifts, souvenirs and single-subject shops, which makes it an easy hour or two with kids or visiting family rather than a serious shopping trip.
Gifts, Hats and Toys
Hot Licks stocks hot sauce from around the world, including San Diego's own Ring of Fire, plus salsas, seasonings and spicy candy. Village Hat Shop (835) carries fedoras, bowlers, caps and cowboy styles with custom embroidery and hat-care supplies, and Geppetto's (835), part of a locally owned San Diego toy chain, sells games, puzzles, craft kits and dolls rather than big-box brands. Safari Animal Collection (865) has plush toys, figurines and animal-themed decor.
Several shops do one thing. Sock Harbor (869) sells only socks, in novelty, team and university designs, and Magnuts (849) sells only magnets. Alamo Flags (851, Ste A) covers countries, states, NFL and NCAA teams and the military, and Captain's Cove (851, Ste C) does nautical decor: lighthouses, buoys, ship bells and clocks.
Art, Jewelry and Clothing
For art, The Chuck Jones Gallery (809, Ste E4-B) is devoted to the Looney Tunes animator, with prints, originals and character art of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Art Scene West (803) has rotating shows by local and visiting artists, selling originals and affordable prints and hosting painting parties. Iris Galerie (867, Ste C) photographs your eye up close and prints the image of your iris as artwork, made on site.
Turquoise Trails (867) has a large stock of Native American jewelry plus pottery, rugs, baskets and Southwest gifts, and Ocean Avenue (835, Ste C4CB) sells Ray-Ban and Maui Jim sunglasses and sterling silver ocean-themed jewelry. For clothes, San Diego Surf Co. (839, Ste B) carries board shorts, swimwear and sandals from Hurley, O'Neill and Rip Curl, Crazy Shirts (853, Ste C) sells printed T-shirts for the whole family, and Eclectique Boutique (809, Ste E4-G) mixes casual women's fashion and statement accessories with offbeat gifts.
Snacks and a Meal
Seaport Coffee & Fudge Factory (859) makes homemade fudge, chocolates and caramel apples and opens at 9am, an hour before most shops. The Best Donuts (879, Ste B) makes small-batch Polish-style donuts fresh daily, and the San Pasqual Winery Tasting Room (805) pours the San Diego winery's wines by the glass, flight or bottle until 10pm. For a full meal on the water, Shorebird opened in August 2025 in the former Pier Cafe, with a raw bar and wood-fired and rotisserie dishes, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
